The leaves have turned, and it’s already feeling like winter in Harrisburg. I’m keeping busy during the last week of session in 2019 with rallies, hearings, meetings, and lots of votes. Here are just a few updates from this past month:
Movement on PFAS Legislation
This week, the Senate passed Representative Todd Stephens’ HB 1410 42-7. It now moves to Governor Wolf’s desk for signing. This bill will direct a portion of new revenue from PFAS-affected municipalities back into these communities to assist with reimbursement of surcharges, remediation and redevelopment. I am excited about this bill’s passage and hope it signals the first of many legislative actions to improve our communities’ health, environment, and economy so that our families can thrive.
Special Education Funding Commission
The 2019-2020 budget included a $50,000,000 (4.4 percent) increase for special education funding. As a member of the Special Education Funding Commission, I participated in several hearings to collect expert testimony and public comments on the best ways to allocate that funding. A report is expected to be published with recommendations for improvement by the end of the year - I look forward to reviewing it.
Do you have suggestions on how special education can be improved in our Commonwealth? Reach out to my office.
Much of my legislation comes from concerns I receive from members of our community, and when I’m unsure about how to vote on a bill, I turn to my constituents and community partners for input. Do you have an issue you’d like me to know about? Would you like to weigh in on a particular piece of legislation? Please don’t hesitate to contact my Harrisburg office at 717-787-6599 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In the District
The last few months have been jam-packed with constituent meetings, business tours, ribbon cuttings, and community events! Here are just a few highlights.
Warminster Office Damage Update
A few weeks ago, my Warminster office was damaged in a hit-and-run accident overnight, creating a large opening in our conference room wall. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the Warminster Township Police Department and our landlord, Sal Gaiamo of Guiseppe’s Pizza, for their prompt response and investigation. With the assistance of the Warrington Township Police Department, Warminster police have apprehended the driver, who was under the influence at the time.
Horsham Township Ribbon Cutting
I was happy to be a part of the ribbon cutting ceremony for Horsham Township’s beautiful new municipal building. Congratulations to the township officials, staff, and community members who made it possible!
Veterans Day in the 12th District
Last week, we celebrated Veterans Day and recognized the courageous men and women who served our country. I was honored to meet and thank many veterans in our community at events across the district.
Senior Scams Event
Our first Senior Scam Prevention event at the Ben Wilson Senior Activity Center was a success! Attorney General Josh Shapiro's office and BB&T Bank representatives offered engaging, crucial information about protecting ourselves against fraud. I look forward to holding more of these events around our district in the coming months.
